Marketing & Communications Internship
Position Overview
Westmoreland Land Trust is seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern to support outreach, storytelling, and community engagement efforts during the summer of 2026. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world nonprofit marketing experience while helping share the impact of land conservation across Westmoreland County.
Position Details
Schedule: 20 hours per week
Compensation: $16/hour
Location: Saint Xavier Nature Preserve (106 Saint Xavier Rd, Latrobe, PA)

Eligibility Requirement: This position is offered through the Experience Works! PLUS Internship Program. Applicants must be determined eligible by Experience Works! Plus and be residents of Westmoreland or Fayette County.
Key Responsibilities
– Create and manage social media content (Facebook & Instagram) – Write and edit blog posts and newsletters
– Promote events and volunteer opportunities
– Attend events to capture photos and videos
– Design flyers, graphics and promotional materials (Canva Pro available)
– Support email communications and outreach
– Maintain branding consistency across platforms
– Support in the development of our new website; work with a professional website developer
– Assist with additional marketing projects as needed
Desired Skills & Qualifications
– Interest in marketing, communications, or environmental conservation
– Strong writing and communication skills
– Experience with social media
– Basic graphic design skills (Canva preferred)
– Organized and able to work independently
– Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
– Photography or content creation experience is a plus

AmeriCorps Conservation Service Member
Position Duration: Flexible Start Date – August 1, 2026
300 total hours
Location: Latrobe, PA
Compensation: This 300-hour position offers a $450 biweekly stipend and a $1,565.08 education award upon successful completion.
About Westmoreland Land Trust
The Westmoreland Land Trust (WLT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving and stewarding land of ecological, cultural, and recreational value for public benefit. Since its founding, WLT has permanently protected over 700 acres in Westmoreland County through purchase or donation. Our flagship public-access properties include the 350-acre Saint Xavier Nature Preserve, Ackermann Nature Preserve, Meadowlark Nature and Art Park, and Twin Lakes Meadow. In addition to land protection, WLT provides nature education programming at its preserves and across all Westmoreland County School Districts.
Position Summary
The Westmoreland Land Trust AmeriCorps Conservation Service Member will support Westmoreland Land Trust’s mission to conserve land and connect people to nature through hands-on environmental education, volunteer engagement, and stewardship of protected properties. The Service Member will play a key role in delivering education programs, coordinating volunteer activities, and assisting with on-the-ground land stewardship work across WLT’s preserves, including Saint Xavier Nature Preserve, Ackermann Nature Preserve, Meadowlark Nature and Art Park, & Twin Lakes Meadows.
Key Responsibilities
Land Stewardship Support (60%)
- Assist with stewardship activities across WLT preserves, including trail maintenance, invasive species removal, habitat restoration, and site beautification efforts.
- Support seasonal land management tasks in coordination with staff and volunteers.
- Help document stewardship activities through basic data collection, photographs, and field notes.
Volunteer Coordination & Community Engagement (20%)
- Assist with the coordination and facilitation of volunteer workdays at the properties, service projects, and community events.
- Support volunteer recruitment/community outreach, communication, and on-site engagement.
- Attend and assist with leading volunteer workdays on the preserves for activities such as trail maintenance, plantings, invasives removals, etc.
Nature Education (20%)
- Assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of nature education programs for children & adults.
- Assist with the development of educational materials and promotional materials.
- Promote programming across Westmoreland County and represent WLT at community tabling and outreach events.
The Service Member will receive:
– Exposure to land trust operations, partnerships, and community-based conservation efforts.
– Training in nature education methods, volunteer management, and land stewardship best practices.
– Opportunities to gain experience working with children, adults, volunteers, and conservation – professionals.
– Mentorship and professional development related to careers in conservation, education, or nonprofit leadership.
Qualifications
- Interest in land stewardship and conservation, nature education, and community engagement.
- Ability to work weekends and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfort working with children, families, volunteers, and diverse community groups.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple sites preferred.
- College coursework or experience in environmental studies, education, biology, parks and recreation, or related fields is a plus.
