Come join us! For an Earth Day celebration of wildflowers along the rich wooded slopes of Otto and Magdalene Ackermann Nature Preserve. The first part of the walk is an easy stroll along Old Dirt Road Trail. Those who wish to continue on a moderate walk can join us down the Wedding Trail for waterfalls and trilliums. Along the floodplain of Blue Dell Run, see more flowers, and learn about recent tree and shrub plantings.
We will practice social distancing. See https://www.cdc.gov/…/daily-life-coping/visitors.html for ways to enjoy the outdoors. (Stay home if you do not feel well. Stay at least 6 feet away from people you don’t live with. Wear a mask.)

Meet at 6 p.m. at the Ackermann Preserve.
We will:
• maintain existing trails, create new trail tread and perform various trail tasks
• maintain tubes and mats of recently planted trees
• tackle newly sprouted knotweed with a shovel blade (what better way to get rid of weekday frustrations!)
All are welcome, but children should be accompanied by an adult.
Don’t worry if trail building is new to you; instruction will be provided!
The land trust can supply useful trail and work tools (Pulaski, mattocks, shovels, clippers and loppers), but if desired and able, bring your own rake, shovel, clippers or loppers.
Please bring your own work gloves. And wear shoes that can get muddy or wet.
We will meet rain or shine. Let us know [Loree at (724) 518-6022, [email protected]] if you can attend, or if you have any questions.
If you arrive after 6 p.m., look for a note on the kiosk for our destination.

A Walk in Penn’s Woods through the scenic Ackermann Preserve, jointly hosted by the Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association and the Westmoreland Land Trust. Please join us for this exploration of this beautiful forested property!
A fun family-friendly road rally showcasing the beauty of Westmoreland County. The Westmoreland Ramble will start and end at the Donohoe Campus at 218 Donohoe Road, Greensburg PA. An after-rally celebration will feature music by The NewLanders and food trucks with refreshments available for purchase.
No rally experience is needed! Each car must have a driver and navigator, and can hold as many other occupants as there are seatbelts. No calculations are required; scoring is based on answers to sometimes devious questions. This is a wonderfully fun way to enjoy Westmoreland’s fall colors!
